Furnishing a Vacation Rental Bedroom

A comfortable and inviting place to sleep after a long day is probably the most important part of welcoming your guests to any vacation rental.

We’ve spent a lot of time and a lot of trial and error getting the right combination of comfort and cost efficiency. Here’s how we furnish a standard vacation rental bedroom:

The Bed

Most vacation rentals will equip either a queen or king bed. You’ll have to think about three key things, the headboard, the frame and the mattress. We’ve done the mattress store route and the bed in a box route and have found that beds you can order online are usually cheaper in the long run, they don’t sag nearly as fast for the price and remain comfortable for longer. Paired with a good frame and a stylish but inexpensive headboard you can create a great sleeping setup.

  • Tuft & Needle King Mattress: We have also tested Casper but so far Tuft & Needle has held up the best in guest opinions, YMMV. We’re also a fan of T&N on Amazon because of free Prime shipping. On a mattress.
  • Zinus 14″ King Frame
  • Zinus Universal Headboard Brackets
  • Grey Linen Headboard: We love the simple, elegant look of this headboard, and it sets off the rest of the room nicely, while still being comfortable to sit and read against.
  • Pillows: Our most common setup is two medium and two soft pillows. These gel pillows are cooling and perfect for a comfy sleep.
  • Pillow Cases
  • Sheets: These sheets are amazing. They are soft, breathable, don’t pill or wrinkle, and are easy to bleach. Two sets greatly increases rental turn speed while one set is in the laundry.
  • Comforter Set:Life becomes so much easier when you buy your bedding in pre-designed sets. You get a comforter, shams, and bedskirt that looks lovely together and gives you the freedom to have fun with sheets and throw pillows.
  • Waterproof Cover: It’s best to have this. Trust us on this one. Speedy prime shipping or not, mattresses are expensive.
  • Silver Throw Pillows
  • Blue Throw pillow
  • Throw Pillow Inserts
  • Sham Pillows
  • White Wooden Bedside Tables
  • Front Seat: Handy for sitting and putting on shoes and a bit of extra storage in the unit itself. Plus, stylish.
  • Alarm Clock: While these can be considered outdated, the ones we chose here come equipped with usb and outlets for our guests to charge their devices while they sleep.
